Maui Kayaks
If you want to go kayaking in Maui with a broken knee, I highly recommend Maui Kayaks. As you know, when I was there in October I still couldn't walk, but I don't need to walk to paddle a kayak or go snorkeling, do I?
That's K, kayak guide extraordinaire, the man who made it all possible. I call him K not to protect his identity, but because I don't know how to spell his name. Getting into the water was easy enough, I crutched on down the beach to the kayak and was pulled out to sea. K ran the crutches back up to the van.
I very much appreciated K's skill at doing his job successfully while wearing very little clothing.
I also appreciated his skill at finding cool shit for us to look at. He had lots of info to share about the fish and the turtles and the local area, most of which I forgot once we returned to shore.
Our small group paddled around all day, anchoring and jumping out to snorkel now and then. On the way back, what was most likely someone's lost pet bird landed on my kayak. Twice.
Once we did get back to shore, we ran into the issue of how to get me back up the beach as quickly and comfortably as possible. At first, I tried to lean on K and hop up the beach. That didn't last long.
K: "You know, I could carry you."
Me: "You don't mind?"
K: "Do YOU mind?"
You might to scroll back up here and remind yourself what K looks like.
Did I mind? Aaahh, no. Not a bit.
Lunch was waiting for us in the van, along with my crutches. A good time was had by all. Mahalo, K!

Wal-Mike's
Trapper Creek, Alaska
July, 2009Unfortunately, Wal-Mike's was closed. I wanted a pair of those snowshoes.
WHO DAT!!
I know we're all sick of the word magic being thrown around this particular Saints football season. But it just seems so appropriate.
It was another one of those games designed to give you a heart attack. Overtime. We were frantic. Then, we watched as Garrett Hartley's kick sailed through the goalpost. It took a few moments for everyone to fully comprehend what had just happened. And then, oh baby. Let the good times roll...
Undefeated! I have no idea what the fuck is going on, but this is the most beautiful season the Saints have ever had. I am loving it. Magic, I tell you! Serious magic going on this year.

119 decibels
If this is how loud it got at a bar in San Francisco during a Monday night Saints game:
Then I have no problem believing the following article:

I had season tickets when I lived in New Orleans. I know how loud it can get in the Dome. This year? I can't even imagine. Breesus bless each and every one of you who were in the Superdome Monday night, taking the decibel level to 119. I wish I could have been there. Maybe we could have made it 120.

WHO DAT!!
The Saints were on Monday Night Football. I was in San Francisco. So where did I go to watch the game? Where else?
The atmosphere was quite festive. Everyone's feeling pretty good about remaining undefeated thus far. Mmm, look at all that Purple Haze...
It was even festive behind the bar...
I often wonder what they think of us, those poor people who live at the corner of Lombard and Van Ness. Once a week during football season, their nice peaceful little corner gets over-run by a bunch of drunken lunatics wearing black and gold, dancing up and down the street, chanting strange phrases using poor grammar. I wonder if we are inadvertently preventing tourist dollars from reaching our beloved hometown. "I don't want to go to New Orleans on vacation, honey. Those people are crazy. Have you seen their football fans?"
Yeah you right!
The Saints remain undefeated. They are now 11-0. Are we talking Superbowl? We are talking un-fucking-believable. Who dat said dey gonna beat dem Saints! Who dat! Who dat!
