Eye Candy

New Orleans, LA
Jazz Fest 2010

I remember way back when Big Sam used to own the Funky Butt over on Rampart.  I used to go in there to hear him and his Funky Nation play and wonder why this guy wasn't playing at Jazz Fest, or all over the country for that matter.  It was the best kept secret in the city.  This was back when Big Sam was really BIG Sam, before he lost a bunch of weight and started going to the gym all the time.  He was always one of the most charismatic performers New Orleans had ever seen.  Now he's all buff, and fine as a motherfucker:

The secret's out, too.  He's all over the place now, drawing a huge crowd at the fest last week.  Last time I saw him in San Francisco, the Boom Boom Room had people spilling out the door.  I saw him at d.b.a. not too long ago.  I was going to say hello on the break, but I realized I was going to need a machete to hack through the tangle of shrieking females clinging to his feet.

Hmm.  Maybe some other time.

Check them out here.  See if you can make it to their next show.  Bring your dancing shoes, and lots of energy.  Have fun!

Eye Candy

Palm Beach, Florida

In my world, Hawaii still reigns supreme when it comes to beautiful surfer boys to gaze upon, at least so far.  In California they're still athletic and fun to watch, but the water is so cold that they're always covered up in wetsuits, so you don't get the whole tanned, muscular body viewing experience.  South Florida doesn't have as much serious wave action, but they still had a few cutie pies down there...

Maui Kayaks

If you want to go kayaking in Maui with a broken knee, I highly recommend Maui Kayaks.  As you know, when I was there in October I still couldn't walk, but I don't need to walk to paddle a kayak or go snorkeling, do I?

That's K, kayak guide extraordinaire, the man who made it all possible.  I call him K not to protect his identity, but because I don't know how to spell his name.  Getting into the water was easy enough, I crutched on down the beach to the kayak and was pulled out to sea.  K ran the crutches back up to the van.

I very much appreciated K's skill at doing his job successfully while wearing very little clothing.

I also appreciated his skill at finding cool shit for us to look at.  He had lots of info to share about the fish and the turtles and the local area, most of which I forgot once we returned to shore.

Our small group paddled around all day, anchoring and jumping out to snorkel now and then.  On the way back, what was most likely someone's lost pet bird landed on my kayak.  Twice.

Once we did get back to shore, we ran into the issue of how to get me back up the beach as quickly and comfortably as possible.  At first, I tried to lean on K and hop up the beach.  That didn't last long.

K: "You know, I could carry you."

Me: "You don't mind?"

K: "Do YOU mind?"

You might to scroll back up here and remind yourself what K looks like.

Did I mind?  Aaahh, no.  Not a bit.

Lunch was waiting for us in the van, along with my crutches.  A good time was had by all.  Mahalo, K!

Eye Candy

Saw this beautiful boy in Maui last month, reading what appears to be a very bad book.  The title was "Virginity".  Seriously.  Ironic, though.  That's the LAST word that came to my mind when I saw him.
